TAR

In the image of a derivative of coal from which it takes its name, tar is a substance which is present in tobacco smoke. The tar is a black and sticky residue composed of hundreds of chemical substances, some of which are considered carcinogenic or classified as toxic waste. Among the substances that one finds in tobacco tar, are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, aromatic amines and inorganic compounds. In the first instance it obstructs the lungs and disturbs respiration and in this way, tar, like the other constituents of cigarettes, is responsible for their toxicity, leading to tobacco dependency and numerous illnesses linked to tobacco consumption.

The European HELP programme for fighting against tobacco can bring you a lot of information and support for giving up smoking.
