Passive smoking refers to the ongoing inhalation of other people’s toxic smoke. Smokers as well as non-smokers are equally affected by harmful passive tobacco inhalation in smoky places. Passive smoking occurs as a person breaths in the numerous toxic substances contained in tobacco that are released when a cigarette is lit. Every year in Europe, more than 19,000 people die of passive smoking, of whom 24% are non-smokers. Passive smoking causes many diseases (cancer, heart attack, stroke etc).
The HELP European anti-smoking campaign can give you lots of information and support to help you avoid the dangers of second-hand smoke.
